Okay, I have been missing in action. I will try to post a few things just so there is something new on here.

Alex had her wisdom teeth removed. She is still swollen on her left side, but so much better.

Where is her left dimple?

Going back a little....Christmas was great. We stayed home and enjoyed the time at home.

Alex got a sewing machine. And immediately sewed a towel wrap.

Dani got guitar books and Dad's old guitar. She can see if she wants to keep learning the guitar. She got a tuner and had to tune it before she could begin. CJ got an overdose of knives ... multi tool ones and others. He is addicted to knives and carving things, etc. He then collapsed for the day, as he took over Dani's usual role and was sick on Christmas day. Of course, I enjoyed playing on the computer on the break.

John took care of everybody and squeezed in a little TV time.

And Ollie is just a little more shaggy!

Sara is in school to be an elementary teacher and she is taking one of her art classes now. I am loving seeing some of her creations. I have to share her latest. Those with boys will probably know this character very well. If you don't, you will! Sara made this with paper mache. Impressive!

Aunt Bev is turning 60 in December and was she surprised last night.

She thought she was coming to Aunt Debbie and Uncle Jimmy's surprise wedding anniversay party. Here is when everyone started yelling surprise and she was laughing because she thought the yelling was supposed to be for them.

This is when her sister is telling her Happy Birthday and that the party is actually for her (Does she look shocked or what?

Last night at Aunt Bev's party, I got to see lots of cousins. But some don't see me enough to remember me, so I thought I would post his picture here, so he can see he REALLY IS my cousin!

We Have Electricity and Repair of Yard is Underway!

Most of you have read Paula and Greg's Blog and saw that we were hit by the winds of the hurricane. It was quite funny that we were watching and hoping they wouldn't get hit too bad, and they only got a half inch of rain. Then the winds made it up here and did major damage. Quite rediculous, actually.

Schools were closed today and will be closed tomorrow also. Even I didn't have to go to work and I ALWAYS have to go to work. There is always office work to do at schools, but if there is NO electricity and NO phone, there is really nothing we can do.

We were the lucky few. Our electricity came back on at 4:30 this morning. They said there were over 300,000 without electircity yesterday. They restored 85,000 and there are still 215,000 without electricity. 62 out of 90 electrical substations have been damaged. Many of our friends still do not have electricity. We gave Ed and Francey our generator and they loaned us their chainsaw and help today. John's chainsaw broke and we definitely needed one. Some of our neighbor men also came over and helped cut down and pile up branches and trees. CJ was an amazing help. As you can see even little Talley was really helpful.

We did not get an ounce of rain, it was weird. Funny this thing gave us as much trouble as we had in the past in Florida. Thank God we didn't get hit full force by the big thing.

My excuse for not blogging is my handicapped hands.

Quick explanation of my stupidity.

Oh brother, I am still doing everything, it is just slower going. I have braces on both hands, they are hoping I won;t need casts.

Am I forgiven for not blogging, please.........

Okay, I have been out of it because I had a freak accident a week ago Wednesday. I was trying to get to a cookbook on a shelf and I stood on a rolling desk chair. Yep, you guessed it, it rolled and I fell. I landed on both hands and sprained them very badly. They xrayed them twice thinking they might be broken. I have been wearing a brace on both hands and haven't been able to drive or do much of anything. I couldn't even hold a blowdryer in my hands (picture John or CJ holding a blowdryer in the air while I try to blowdry my hair.) Today is much better and I was actually able to download my pics from my surprise quick trip to Florida.

My trip came about one morning when I heard from Uncle Ed that he was going to surprise my Mom and drive down to see her. I asked if he had 2 more seats available and Cj and I hitchhiked. It was a quick but great visit and I came back with a few cute pics. I didn't take as many as usual, since I wasn't there that long.

A Letter From Granny

I know, it is a title that makes you wonder. But, it is true. In cleaning my desk, I came across a letter I received from Granny in 1991. Alex was only 8 months old. I have read it throughout the years and often thought I should share it with others. Some of you may have never rec'd a letter from Granny since you lived near her, but I just want you to know, Granny's letters were always something to look forward to. Even as a little girl, I remember loving a Granny letter to arrive in the mail. She just said what she was thinking at the time, jumping from one subject to the next. I love looking at her handwriting, it brings back so many memories!!

(In this letter, she signs it "Stella", which I find kind of funny also. I don't think this is her memory going, I just think that one was a slip. I can promise you I never called her Stella.)

So, even though this letter is written to John and me, I hope it makes you smile. If you click on the picture, it will make it bigger and you can read it.

Okay, we had a great day at the "Walk" on Saturday. Hopefully, a lot of money was raised for Juvenile Diabetes.

I took lots of pics before and during the walk, but especially afterwards at the park. Of course, we were focusing our attention on one particular little girl, but if I saw cool Team Logan tshirts during the day, I snapped some pics. The pic looked exactly like Logan!! After reading Ashley's blog about "Bunny" I had to put these pics up from this summer. I think Ashley put a scrapbook page she had made about bunny on her blog at one time, but I felt bunny must be showcased. He is that important. (Kind of like Patrick's fish blanket.)

Her blog did not share our end of it. We were just heading out to the basketball game to see Alex. John was there ahead of us and Dani and I were kind of waiting until closer to halftime. Well, when Ashley called we said yeah, we'll drop him off before we go up to the game. On our way to Ashley's house, the phone rang and John said the second quarter had already started. He asked why I was going to Ashley's first, since there wasn't much time, I told him about Bunny and he immediately understood the gravity of the missing Bunny at bedtime. We were in a mad dash to drop Bunny off and still make it to the game in time. We pulled in to the driveway, Dani made the pass of Bunny to Brian at the door and ran back to the car. We then rushed back to the school. In the meantime Alex calls us asking if we were there yet. Dani, in her wisdom suggested we park in the second parking lot and run from there. I, imn my wisdom, had to try and get a closer spot, but alas there were none and we had to go back to the lot Dani suggested in the first place. Of course, as we were running (me - gasping and running), I got to hear "I told you so!" Well, we did make it in time and I got to take pictures, but it was quite a little adventure. I just thought I would share the WHOLE Bunny experience. Now, you know the REST of the story!! (Anyone know what THAT is from?)

Homecoming Court

Alex was on the Homecoming Court last night. She looked so beautiful, as always. She didn't pick her own escort, they were assigned. They were assigned one of the guys in the running for "King". She said he is a very nice guy and it looked like it as she was laughing with him out on the court. She didn't win Queen, but said she didn't expect to, within minutes of it being over, she was changed and hanging out with friends. I am proud of you Alex!

A Great Joke I Heard Today!!

I was shopping at the local super market where I selected:

A half-gallon of 2% milk,
A carton of eggs,
A quart of orange juice,
A head of romaine lettuce,
A 2 lb. can of coffee, and
A 1 lb. package of bacon.

As I was unloading my items on the conveyor belt to check out, a drunk standing behind me watched as I placed the items in front of the cashier.

While the cashier was ringing up the purchases, the drunk calmly stated, 'You must be single.'

I was a bit startled by this proclamation, but I was intrigued by the derelict's intuition, since I was indeed single.

I looked at the six items on the belt and saw nothing particularly unusual about my selections that could have tipped off the drunk as to my marital status.

Curiosity getting the better of me, I said: 'Well, you know what, you are absolutely right. But how on earth did you know that?'

The drunk replied: 'Cause you're ugly.'

The Biggest Loser Contest!

Okay.... I am the biggest I have ever been in my life. I have these super pissy genes from the family of my father. (No last names given.) They are not from the family of the pissy skinny family of my mother (no names here either). But, anyway, I digress. I decided this was it and I had to do something to motivate me to stay with my diet and exercise. So, at work I put out the word and set up the biggest loser contest. We had 19 people join and we are doing it until May 19th. Something about these challenges just make me stay with it. Last time I was the biggest loser. But, then I think I turned around and became the biggest gainer.

So, wish me luck and slap anybody who happens to be near you who inherited the "skinny" genes of this family.

ha..... I am ready to do this and will keep you informed of my progress.... not my weight, but my progress!!

My Busy Men!

This weekend my guys were still busy working on the back deck. They have put so much time and effort into it, I am so proud. Around 3PM, John told CJ to take off when some neighborhood boys came and asked CJ to go shoot air soft guns. He doesn't really "play" much with kids around here, he is usually playing with his father. ha

I was so busy in the house, I didn't even take a picture, but next weekend I am going to make sure I get out there and do that.

Tuesday, my voice left me and is still refusing to come back. It is driving me totally nuts. I may have to visit the doctor and I HATE to do that!! It is not really hurting me, but I know it is because of all the congestion I have. I think John has enjoyed it.

Hey everyone! It's Alex! We have a snow day today but my mom still has to work. :( I was looking at this blog and figured you guys might want something fresh on here. We don't really have any new pictures but I guess I could add some random ones. Anything is better than this same ol same ol!!!

Thought this picture was pretty humorous. I think I was in 6th grade, meaning this was about 6 years ago.

This picture is fitting for today, being a snow day and all. It's me, Jessy, and Dani. We were soooo excited about that tiny bit of snow! I remember Dad and Uncle Jeff even sent us down the tiny hill on trash can lids. Of course, I only remember this through pictures because I was obviously too young to remember this. haha.

I will have to upload the picture of us doing this yesterday. It was a lot of fun, Dad enjoyed it most of all. I kidd I kidd. He would still be on the ground if we had done that! And CJ probably would have broken his neck sitting right there. Haha.

Turning Over a New Leaf

Okay, so when I was first married I used to plan and fix yummy homecooked meals all the time for the love of my life. Well, as my kids were born and got busy and picky, I found I slowly transitioned to more kid friendly meals, then as they got older and more busier and I started working, it got harder and harder to plan anything. I was getting home late, kids were ready to eat or not home until really late because of their sports. It got to where we had more and more convenience foods. Homecooked meals turned into Stouffers lasagna, Spaghetti, grilled cheese, eggs or anything quickly thrown together.

Well, I decided to get back into the swing of real cooking. I have a husband and one child at home who really loves homecooked meals and one young man who would rather me just let him eat mac and cheese and just leave him alone. But CJ is coming along. Since XMas, I have been planning on Saturdays and preparing the night before what needs to be done the next day. I have made my kids wait a little while if supper isn't ready quite when they are ready. In the past, they were all starving and by the time I would get home, they had helped themselves to waffles, cereal, or whatever they decided they wanted to eat. Now, they have a little snack if they have to and then wait.

In the last 2 weeks, I have made:

Meatloaf
Shells and Cheese Chicken Casserole
Pork Chops and Gravy
Creamed Spinach Spaghetti
Beef Stoghanoff
Beef and Gravy
Impossible Ham and Cheese Pie
Taco Pie
Homemade Pizza

Of Course, we had lots of side vegetables

Potatoes - mashed, sliced, baked
Noodles
Corn
Green Beans
Green Bean Casserole
Peas
Salad

So, keep your fingers crossed and pray that this continues for me. Tomorrow night is Roast with potatoes and carrots. Wed. night I have taken pity on my son and told him we would have grilled ham and cheese sandwiches and mac and cheese.

Okay, even Mom is chastising me. I need to do another entry. My kids don't do all the cute things the little ones do, so I don't have fun quotes and pics to add daily.

I am going to the eye doctor today for a check on my contacts. I had saved my medical spending money from work to have eye surgery to find out for the first time in my life, my eyesight had improved since last year. Not a ton, but enough that they won't let me have surgery until there is no change. Good grief. So now, I am back to contacts. Dang. And trying to find all the receipts for my copays and medications, etc., so that I can get reimbursed from my medical account. I get that money since I turn down insurance, but it can only be spent toward medical things. I would rather just get the money, wouldn't you?

I also have the "other" kind of doctor appointment today. Yuck. No fun. But I did take the whole day off and am going to the gym first thing with Ashley, then appntmnt., then play , then back to my appntmt. (Alex is meeting me, as she has her apptmnt too, you know family affair.) I am going to go wake Dani up to see if she can make herself get up and go with us to the gym. I hope so. Fortunately, she has turned into the not so typical teen and goes to bed at reasonable hours and wakes up by 9AM usually.

We are home!

Well, we are home. We got home last night and I was just too tired to put pictures on here. I am at work today, but will try to add pics tonight. Or one of my kids may see this and add a few pics. (edited to say pics have been added.)

We had a fantastic time. We skied, snow tubed, skied, shopped, played Scene It (friends version - Dani is a pro), laughed, cried, went to movies and just had a fantastic time.

We knew it was supposed to snow us in Friday during the night, so we decided to celebrate XMas Sat. since we couldn't go anywhere. We just opened presents and hung out together that day, which was very nice. We got a lot of snow. It was awesome.

Everyone of our kids take to skiing so well, it is so exciting. The resort is real small, so the snow runs were not extremely long, but the nicest thing was there were usually no lines. On XMas day, we ran into lines for about 1.5 hours and that was it, usually we skied down and went right to the lift. Everyone of us could ski this resorts "Black Diamonds" which were not really black diamond, but it was fun to do it. CJ was fearless. He tucked in and went plowing straight down. He also learned to spray his Dad with his skis.

Ok.... falls, where should we start. Most of the time, we did not fall. I had 2, Dani had 1, Alex had 1, CJ had a few (as he would try to learn new things) and John had a ton (but only the day he tried snowboarding.) The girls falls were kind of stupid and funny. Alex fell once as she was getting off the ski lift. She had lost her ski and was trying to do it with one ski. They had to stop the lift and help her ... and she kept falling as he was helping her. Dani was getting on the lift with me beside her ( she was actually already sitting in the seat) and her pole got caught and her wrist was still in the strap, so she .... kind of fell out of the lift. It looked like she had done a face plant, but she didn't. We couldn't stop laughing. One of my falls was just because I was trying to be fancy and it didn't work. I then couldn't get myself up, the ski wouldn't let lose. The other fall was a bit more dramatic. I was standing behind my family waiting in the ski line and....... I was totally not paying attention and just lost my balance and fell down. The family turned around and there I was on the ground. It was pretty darn funny. It is so HARD getting up with skis on. John was there to help me, but it is still very hard.

Well, gotta get back to work. I will tell more later... Love and miss you all.

We are going to a cabin in Wisconsin Dells to a privately owned ski resort named Christmas Mountain Village. It will just be the 5 of us and we will be family bonding. We will ski, tube, play games, watch movies, laugh, cry, fight. ha Open XMas presents and just have a fun time being together. We are very excited!!

We have friends staying at our house housesitting for us and taking care of the dog and getting the mail.

I have almost finished XMas shopping and am so ready for some downtime with the family. Dani comes home from college tomorrow. She will be finished with midterms and ready for a month break. I love that girl. Alex and CJ get finished Tuesday next week and are ready for their winter break.

A Tragedy in Oldham County

Alex's friend, Megan(wearing blue jacket), was killed last night when her car hit a deer and was thrown into the path of a semi truck. The driver was also a friend and has been in the hospital with fractured skull and other injuries. Jordan (in black sweatshirt) does not remember the accident, but fortunately witnesses have said it was not her fault. A large deer jumped in front of the car and after hitting the deer full force their Ford Focus was thrown in the path of a semi truck.

Life in Oldham County is very somber for these teenagers this weekend, as they are all getting together to plan ways to remember Megan. Her parents have asked me to make a video for the memorial service.

Please pray for Megan's family and Jordan as they try to heal as best they can.

My girl is 20 today. I surprised her by going up at lunchtime and walking in on her in the cafeteria. She seemed very happy to see me. She had told me that her roommates and another girlfriend were all going to dinner and a movie. I knew they wouldn't mind me going with them, so I decided to give Dani a surprise. What I didn't realize was that they had 20 people sitting at O'Charlies waiting for her tonight. She was surprised and I was happy to be there and see all the love people have for her there. It was very nice.

Happy Birthday my little girl!! Makes me sad, you are all grown up!!

23 years ago, I met a man at a bar. I thought he was cute, but possibly not very smart. My friend told me that he HAD to be smart if he went to the Naval Academy, but I thought they might have made a mistake --- he kept repeating the same questions to me over and over, like he had no memory. (Found out later, it was the many, many drinks that caused that.)

He said that night he and Jeff each thought the other had gotten our phone numbers .... well there was no way I would have given a guy from a bar my phone number. I worked a week of night shift and then we went to a wonderful little town in Indiana to celebrate my Pappy and Granny's anniversary. That would be a time shown in one of the pictures in previous blog posting. Came back in town and worked more night shifts before I was able to go out again. Funny thing was that I had lots of friends tell me that guy John kept asking them about me. He apparently kept going back to several of the local "dancing spots" looking for me. :)

Finally, I had a night out and was looking for my girlfriend whom I was supposed to be meeting. As I rounded the corner, I saw that hunky looking naval aviator turning around from the bar. I said, "Hi!" and he just stared at me and didn't say anything. I then said, "I'm sorry, I thought I knew you" and turned, embarrased, to walk away. My arm was grabbed and he said, "Lorie, where have you been?"

Well, I didn't know it, but my single days were over from that time forth. I fell and I fell hard. I used to wonder if a certain guy was the right one and wonder if I was really in love. Well, I have told my girls, when it is the real deal, you know it. After 3 months I was so in love with him and fortunately the feeling was mutual. Once he told me he loved me, he opened the faucet and I told him, and told him, and told him. It is a wonder he didn't turn tail and run.

Today, I still tell him over and over and over. I mean, who couldn't love this hunk of macho man?

Christmas In September

Some of you may remember Christmas Dani's graduating year, I told of the deal we made with our children when they were little. We told them that if they graduated with a 4.0 (or close to it) and stayed out of trouble then we would make sure they had a car when they went to college. We made this deal hoping it would give them something to use to prevent peer pressure when it came to certain activities high schoolers may get into. We also were hoping it would mean scholarships and therefore could afford a car payment since we wouldn't have to be paying full tuition for college.

Well, Alex has done great and does have that GPA, as well has stayed out of trouble. We knew we couldn't surprise her at Christmas as she has kind of been expecting it. So, we went out this weekend and found a car she really wanted, with all the things she was hoping for and a deal we couldn't pass on and voila, Christmas in September. She knows her Christmas will be small and I imagine we will be wrapping that car brochure in a box, just to remind her at Christmas about her early present.

Here it is...... it is a Mitsubishi Lancer. It is rated one of the safest cars in its class. Happily, it has front, side, and knee air bags. She is more excited about the sun roof and spoiler. ha

Congratulations Alex, on your GPA, scholarship that is coming, and of course on earning your car. You have made us proud!!

Andy, "The Bachelor" comes to Louisville

Okay, so Friday Alex's cross country team was given the "opportunity" to volunteer to help at the Ironman Triathlon on Sunday morning.

We got there bright and early and learned that indeed Andy Baldwin, the "Bachelor" from this season's show was competing. Alex made a nice little sign in the road and hoped she would be able to pick him out. After a while of watching the first few bikers go by, we decided there was no way we would be able to pick him out. They all look alike with helmets on. My eagle eyes were drawn to a NAVY shirt. I guess after all this time with John, I always spot a familiar NAVY logo. I started snapping pictures and yelled, "Alex, was that Andy?" She started screaming at him after he went past, "I love you Andy!" Our friends were right after her and said he started smiling and tried to turn a little, and then he threw his arm in the air for her.

Well, the bikes came by our station twice on their 120 mile bike ride. the second time, Alex was ready and hooray for Andy, he was ready for her too. He pointed to her and gave her a big smile. He was great. It made her day.

Also, during this race, one guy took a bottle of gatorade from her as he biked by and then said to our friends as he passed them, "That girl is a 10!" Then a little later someone went by, looked right at her and gave her a huge wolf whistle. Another man who was working was in shock. He said the whistle was very loud. I can't believe they had energy to even pay attention to the girls.

We are exhausted, but can only dream how tired the athletes are!!!

John, Dani and I left the house at 7:30 yesterday morning to get Dani all moved in.

We unloaded in record time, but then the fun really began. She is in an apartment on campus that has 2 bedrooms, a bath and a combined living room/kitchen/dining room.

Of course, John happened to be the only Dad that was able to come, so he did all the big grunt work of moving beds and furniture around for the best fit for each girl. I wish I could have helped design these rooms, actually I think a 3 year old could have done a better job in some cases. It is very hard making it a good arrangement unless the girls want to bunk, which they do not.

After the furniture had been arranged, John put together the futon we had gotten for Dani at Walmart. While he was doing this, Dani, the girls and I were trying to unpack and arrange all their things. We then made a trip to lunch and Walmart for cable and internet supplies. John was able to spit the cable so all rooms have cable. Originally, it was only set up for the living room. He did an awesome job of making the cable go under the wall sideboard and above doors. We had peeked into a boys room and the cable was pulled down the hall, across doorways and held to the carpet with duct tape. I think the girls like John's way better. I was able to get Dani's printer and internet set up.

We also went to the bookstore and got Dani her books we had ordered. I must say, I am glad Dani has a scholarship, because even with me having to just pay the meal plan, books, and the extra for the apartment as opposed to a dorm, it is not cheap. Thank you Dani. Keep up the good work!!

Their little apartment looks so cute. I will post pictures once Dani sends me some. I was originally going to take pictures of all the roomies, but because of all the staggering arrivals and all the stuff that needed to be done, I didn't even whip my camera out once.

Hope the shower in Indiana went well. I am so sorry we missed it. We actually mentioned it during our busy day. You were thought of!! We love you!!

Oh, Alex stayed home because she had her first cross country meet of the year and CJ just stayed home because he didn't think it sounded like we would be doing anything fun. Today is a soccer game. And so the craziness continues......

Last week it was such slow torture adding the pic from the competition that I had to pick and choose carefully. Here is one I wanted to add, but didn't. As we were all leaving the Opening Ceremonies, some Latvian girls ran up to John and asked if they could get a picture with him. I thought it was pretty funny as there were hundreds of other men there in uniform. Few were in the gorgeous white uniform he was in and though most were younger than him, few were as handsome!!

On another note, I want to say this is Dani's last week home. We have to take all her things and get her moved into her school apartment on Saturday. We were all disappointed that this meant we could not make Sara L.'s wedding shower. Dani is the one who opened the invitation and I do believe I heard a 4 letter word come out of her mouth. We would postpone it to the next day, but Dani has to help the Freshmen class move in. She had agreed to do this earlier in the year and that is why she has to move in the day before. So, I am sure all will have a grand time, but not nearly as grand if the Weires girls could make it. ha

The new school year has begun. My other two start school on Wed. Alex will be a senior and CJ an 8th grader. Jessica Young left for school on Friday evening. Sara said the phone call about Kendall took her mind off her "baby" leaving for school. She is actually going a few days early to Rush and Sara and Jeff have to go take most of her big things to her later this week. Mitch and I believe Morgan will be in 10th grade. I am trying to remember everybody's kids ages, let us see how many mistakes I make. Nash will also be a senior. Kenzie and Tara will be in 9th grade. Will Allie be in 7th grade. No, that can't be right? Larken is either going to start kindergarten or is going to first grade, which is it? Patrick IS starting kindergarten. And Kelly gets to stay at home and help Kristy, I believe for two more years. Kristy says she gets lots of parenting advise from her 3 year old.

We Are All Home... Safe and Sound

John made it home yesterday at noon and I made it home at midnight. I knew I had to stay in Amsterdam 24 hours, but John was not happy to have his plane in Chicago break and return to the gate. He had to wait 12 additional hours.

He is doing much better. He is eating and drinking, but just very tired. I was worried, but should have known he bounces back fast. He went to work today and did fine, I just won't expect much at home for a few days.

Thanks for everyones thoughts and prayers..... I was worried.

And The Adventure REALLY begins!!

Well, last night and today has been an adventure.

We said goodbye to everyone and John came to my hotel room to spend the last night in a little nicer place. My roomie and her husband (John's teammate) left in the afternoon. We gave our government international phone back and went on our way.

Well, at 11 PM, John started throwing up and hadn't stopped at 2 AM. He had lost everything he had in him and he was dehydrated to begin with. It always takes him about 2-3 days to completely rehydrate after these events. I was afraid we couldn't make our flights in 12 hours and had no way of contacting the US people still here.

Well, I emailed several of them just in case and Trey's wife saw the email (she is in Texas) and called her husband as he and three of the teammates were heading out the door to go to the airport for their flight. They came to the hotel to leave a phone with me and see what they could do. They couldn't do anything as the crazy military flights could only be changed if he took the same route home. That meant he couldn't leave until Thursday the 9th.

Well, he finally stopped throwing up, but had to totally stop taking sips of anything. We decided our best bet was to get him on the flight if at all possible. He was walking so slow and very glazed looking. I had to leave an hour before him, but I left him sitting at his gate with a bunch of German competitors. I knew they would take care of him, if he couldn't make it.

I am in a hotel in Amsterdam overnight and won't be home until tomorrow night. Dani has talked to him when he made it to Germany and was getting ready to board the plane to Chicago. He said it was a miserable flight and he is barely able to walk. I talked to him through Dani and told him to go to a clinic in Frankfort and forget the flight, but he would not do that. We had talked about that would be a better place for medical treatment than Latvia.

He has not been able to hold anything down. I will be happy when he is in the states and am glad that if he gets sick on this plane, at least they will let him off on American soil. ha

I originally thought it was food poisoning, but found out that several of the other competitors were also sick. They did not eat the same food on Saturday, as the US team ate off base. So, I do not know what bug he has, but it was awful!!!!

Well, our journey is ending. Until the next one.......

Orienteer

Wow, It was a LOOOOOOONG day yesterday.

The Orienteer Run is supposed to be mapped to be run start to finish with no mistakes, by a very experienced Orienteer Runner in 100 min. Usually there are not very many teams that come close. Well, this years fastest time was about 2 hours 52 minutes. There were several teams that didn't finish it and some teams that were out there for 10 hours. It was unbelievable!!! They all said it was the longest and most technical course they have ever run. John's team finished in 3 hours 16 minutes. We were very very pleased with them. They ran through a lot of marshy swamp land for the first part of the run, so their feet would get sucked into it and trying to run was crazy. Mike, the General on their team lost the soles to his boots during the run, but didn't tell the guys until the finish. There was one part that they had to send one guy to climb into different trees and other places to retrieve things. Some teams lost a lot of time, taking 10-25 min. on it. John took off and did it in 4 minutes. They said he was made to wear a little helmet that looked like a little dixie cup atop his head. It was the one time they laughed during the run. Grant, the Navy Seal on the team, was the orienteer and he did a great job. They were very excited when they finished. They did not take us out on the course anwhere this year to observe, but we were able to climb over a hill and see their grenade throws. They all thought they were finished them and then had to run around the hill to the finish. Apparently, it was very hard to get back into running again. I took pictures at the top of the hill when they came out of the woods and for a couple grenade throws, then ran to the finish to get them coming in at the end. I always love it when I see them coming to finish. We had been waiting at the finish, hours before they even started. Our other team did great also, they did not do as well as they had hoped, but we were glad to see them finish. I do not know what the final tally was for teams that did not complete it, but I know one female team made it to a road, got a ride to a house and someone had to come pick them up.

Obstacle Course

The guys did great. They did the Land O in 3 min. 27 sec. Nobody fell and they finished very clean. John had to start after the others. He then passed them and got down in the pit. He threw the other two out of the pit, then pulled himself out and continued on the run. That is why in some of the pictures you see him behind the others, then ahead, then back behind again. I forgot he was doing that and thought for a second, "oh my God, what happened, then I saw them being flung up, and here comes my muscley man!!!

The Swim O also went very well. They did great. They are making a bit of a scene having a Navy Captain and a General on the team. They are used to younger guys doing this. They are getting quite bit of attention.

Tonight we had a "Latvian Night" and we went in town to a fancy place off base. They pulled out all the stops. There was dancing, drinks, tons of food. It was a huge deal!!! The Latvian's are very excited to have all these countries here. Our athletes had one drink, lots of food, then we left early. But it was very impressive. Tomorrow night will be wild, there is a BBQ and the guys will be finished competing, so all bets are off. They can eat and drink to their hearts content. We found out the Orienteer Run will be 15K long and that is if it was run straight through. I am not sure how long it will take while navigating with the compass and stopping at all the check points and doing whatever else they have them do on the run. It will be interesting. I am having a hard time on this blog. It is not uploading the pics very easy. I will post this, then see if I can get any pics uploaded. The others will be uploaded to the smugmug site tonight.

Shooting Competition

Well, today was the Pistol and Rifle shoot, using Latvian weapons. John did real well in the Pistol shoot, not as well as he was hoping in the Rifle shoot. Their team is not where they wanted to be after today, but they are still in an okay spot to go on for the next events. Our other team did well, I am not quite sure where they are after today, but I think they are doing really well.

Here are some great pics from today. And I have to say, I do agree with Kim and Paula who say that John is my own "Marlboro Man."

It has already had a lot thrown in this trip besides the sporting competition. After the Opening Ceremonies last night, we were escorted by police to supper, then back to a reception where delegates and big wigs from all the NATO countries were mingling and discussing all kinds of stuff. My eyes started glazing over. But it was wonderful to see the respect these guys get from everybody. The other countries really seem to like the US team, and even the US delegates want to speak to our guys. They like to hear all about the military training that goes into training for this event.

I'm Taking Over

Ok...so Mom just left for Latvia and I too have been waiting for her to update this thing. Seeing as she won't be back for a while, I am taking things into my own hands. By the way, this is Dani. Alex just got back from GSP and she had a BLAST!! She was sad to leave and made some great friends.

Alex and four of her girl friends decided to dance to a Backstreet Boys song for the talent show. They dressed up as guys...alex got Howie...she looked so gross. It doesnt even look like my gorgeous sister in the pictures. A group of them also got into a huge mud fight and they were covered head to foot in caked on mud. She got close with her room mate, Kristen, too! (She is the one in the hooded, wet hair picture with Alex). We were all so excited to get her back. It was weird not having my best friend around for that long.

So, at 5:oo I got onto the internet at the site Dani was going to have me look at at 5:30 our time.

Well, I was trying to make sure I could figure out how to do it so I could see her and I saw the back of someone sitting at the computer. Low and behold, I was SURE it was my Dani. Well, it was and I emailed her and told her to turn around. And there she was, my beautiful little girl in Ireland and I was getting to look at her at that moment. It was very exciting!!! They were all excited. It made for a fun memory. Of course I had to grab my camera and start snapping these technically bad pics of her on the computer.
